Over time as your skin ages, it loses collagen, undergoes cellular changes, becomes damaged by free radicals, and develops wrinkles due to repeated muscle contractions. Your everyday facial expressions such as frowning, squinting, or raising your eyebrows can cause lines and wrinkles to worsen over time. Neurotoxins, such as Botox, Xeomin®, and Dysport, are prescription medications that are injected into the muscle to temporarily block the release of chemicals that cause muscle contractions. These Neurotoxins are used to improve the look of both moderate and severe lines and wrinkles of the face. The results typically last around 3 months.
At Blooming Medical Aesthetics, we welcome patients to a professional but relaxed environment. Our providers will spend a few minutes discussing why you have come to see us and explore all treatment options to address your concerns. We like to educate our patients to make sure they are informed and therefore can decide what treatment is best suited for them.
Jaclyn, our nurse injector, will then explain the procedure that has been selected, and together with the physician, they will determine the appropriate dose to be administered. Jaclyn will clean your face with antiseptic solutions and mark the areas to be injected. A very thin needle is used to inject a series of small, generally painless injections. There is little to no downtime involved with this treatment. It's not uncommon to have small raised bumps for 15 minutes proceeding the injections. Results should be visible starting around day 2 and will continue to improve over the next 2 weeks.
Every person is different, and they metabolize the drug differently. Exercise, sun exposure, and body chemistry all play a role in how long results will last. On average, it can take 2-14 days to see results. Expect results to last around 3 months.
Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications ideally for a period of two weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as Aspirin, Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba, St. John's Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx, and other NSAIDS are all blood thinning and can increase the risk of bruising/swelling after injections.
No straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise should be done for 3-4 hours following treatment. This is so the "toxin" can bind to the nerves and start working. Avoid manipulation of area for 3-4 hours following treatment. (For the same reasons listed above.)
Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event to prevent bruising.
People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who have a cow's milk allergy should not get toxins.
